I’m going to tell you how I made my Huge Dragons. These Dragons were about six feet tall or More and six feet long or More. I made several of these for The First Night..January 2000, in Provo Utah. Some were covered by the school children after I had made the Dragon armature for them ( armature is like the skeleton and muscles).
I started with styrofoam…cut to form the shape of the Dragon. It took lots of styrofoam! I glued the pieces and shapes together until it looks like I wanted it to look..Dragonish! Then with a large file, I shaped some more. I wish I had taken pictures of the process but alas I did not. These dragons had wings and horns and everything!
Then they were delivered to the schools for the kids to cover with old flannel sheets torn into squares, then dipped in a glue mixture, I’m sure they had a blast getting really sticky. I really don’t remember how many dragons, how many schools, how many kids or how the dragons were even transported, this was nearly 20 years ago! So I also won’ t vouch that every thing I remember is perfectly accurate.
Anyway..I do have some photos of the finished dragons..somewhere. When I find them I will post them…Sorry. I’m thinking there are probable lots of photos …somewhere. And if you’re over 25 or 30 years old (or more) you may remember that snowy first night of 2000!
